Trip to Memphis, Tennessee!

Hello~ I failed to do a blog post last week, so I am going to attempt to publish two posts for this week!

I’ve been working at Cisco now for two weeks, and today marks the start of my third. So far I’m loving my new job and I’ve had the opportunity to work on some exciting projects. Also, I was granted the choice to work from home the last two Fridays, which is quite nice since I don’t have to waste 2+ hours of my day commuting!

Oh, and it turns out that I will be cosplaying at Anime Expo this year. It’s been decided~ I will be cosplaying as Kaede from Shuffle!

Now onto today’s blog post

 

This is actually a trip that I went on with my husband back when I was freelancing and traveling. We went to Memphis, Tennessee for a couple of days for his work related business. As for me, I got to visit there solely for adventure and fun.

I didn’t have a car during the day, so much of my exploration was by foot. I find that there is much beauty and wonder when discovering a city for the first time without a car. It forces you to dial back and slow things down a bit so that your senses can fully take in and experience all that is around you.

I got quite excited when I accidentally found myself at this park. I believe that it goes by either Jefferson Davis Park or Confederate Park (and Memphis Park on Google Maps). That’s Jefferson’s statue there in the middle of the photo, and the Hernando DeSoto Bridge in the background.

History is something that’s fascinating because it’s not fiction and there is always something you can learn from it. What makes American history even more interesting to me is that most of it took place less than 200 years ago. Visiting historical landmarks within the United States has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, as I love to envision and see where different battles took place.

The park had the Ten Commandments which I thought was sort of strange, but also a clear reminder that our nation was founded under God. This isn’t something you would be able to find anywhere in California.

Here’s another view of the M-bridge, which carries the I-40 over the Mississippi River. But what’s more exciting to me about this photo is the dilapidated stone wall. Apparently this is the original wall that soldiers used during the Battle of Memphis.

Anyways, moving on… Here’s the Mississippi River, and you can vaguely see the Memphis-Arkansas Bridge. Alright, well that’s about all I have for you regarding history and landmarks. Haha, you’re probably happy about that.

During my adventure on foot, I heard little clicking noises coming from above me. To my surprise (not really), it was a squirrel eating. It’s not like I’ve never seen one before, but whatever, I snapped a photo anyways.

You know what I love about Memphis? It’s one of those cities that have old trolleys running during the day and night time. Also, you can freely walk around as you please and life just seems so much more simple for some reason.

For lunch, I got Indian food from the City Market Deli. It was good for the most part, but I wouldn’t order it again (and I’m a fan of Indian food btw).

Haha, I love Downtown Memphis’ metallic silver painted fire hydrants. My husband was saying that we have those in California too, except it’s a robot-man-street-performer. So true~

Friggin’ huge USA flag. America! F*ck yea!

Another thing that I love about Memphis is how the city transforms at night. *It’s magic!*

Like, where were you during the day time you cute horse drawn carriage that came right out of Cinderella? I swear, these aren’t around during the day, but right when it becomes dark, BOOM!

And there’s this one street in Memphis that has ridiculous amounts of neon lights. Seriously, you can’t miss it! If you just drive around aimlessly in downtown, you’re bound to see this.

It’s cool because they block off the street so that you can walk around freely. I could probably do without the police though, lol. They scare me. But I guess in a place that I am unfamiliar with, they should make me feel safe.

I don’t have many photos of myself in Memphis because I wasn’t really in the mood, but look, here’s one!

Erick and I had dinner at one of the restaurants on this street. I got some sort of pasta dish that was quite good! The restaurant also had live music. Hmmm… it seemed that almost every restaurant and bar on that street provided live musical entertainment. Not bad Memphis.

We love our Jack n’ Coke. This was back 6 months ago however. Now we are drinking just straight whiskey, lol. (F*ck, I feel like I look so different now from when I did 6 months ago. I hope it’s for the better)

Anyways, theres several other meals that I could have shown you. But whatever, right? It’s crappy quality photos that I took on my cell phone in a dark fancy restaurant. And it’s not like there’s a high chance that you will go to Memphis and eat at the places that I ate at.

Well just in case you do, check out Flight. That’s one of the restaurants that we went to and it was quite delicious. Though I must warn you that it’s fancy and everyone that eats there is well dressed.

Also, what’s visiting Memphis without eating some good ole dry rubbed ribs?

We went to Central BBQ for Memphis Ribs, and it did not disappoint. The owner of the restaurant was also from California, and he gave us a tour of their kitchen. He showed and explained to us his process of creating his ribs, which was very kind of him. Lol, he said one of his secrets is to use logs that have been soaked in swamp water….

Well, that’s about all I’m going to be showing from my trip to Memphis!
Sometime in the future, I’ll have to post my trip to Nashville.
