This is my first glam bag that I’ve ever received from ipsy.
My sister got me a year subscription as a Christmas gift (thanks so much Penny!), and I finally got my first bag in April. It’s sort of ridiculous that it takes so long to get a bag. Apparently there was a waitlist due to “overwhelming popularity.” Further, ipsy spams you with email offers to skip the line if you do some social sharing (basically free advertising for them). I opted to ignore the emails and continued to wait in this imaginary line.
It would have been nice if ipsy provided an estimate on when to expect the first bag, or at least show some sort of waiting list on their website. There’s nothing worse than paying for something and having no idea when you are going to get it. I mean seriously, it’s not like what you get is worth that sort of wait.
After about 4 months of waiting, I got my first bag. The contents in the bag weren’t all that impressive. Especially considering that I don’t really need any more makeup. My favorite of the lot is the bag (which is pretty high quality) and the nail polish (I can never say no to more polish). But other than that, the other items are just more things to clutter my drawers with. Anyhow, I’m sure I’ll end up finding some use for them eventually, I always do.
What’s inside the ipsy April glam bag:
- woven bag fabric lined bag, Starlooks lipgloss in “cuddle”
- the Balm mini nude eyeshadow
- Klorane dry shampoo with oat milk
- Eveyln Iona concealer ? (looks shady, theres tho labels on the item and I had to google to find out the brand name)
- JulieG nail polish in “damsel”
Does anyone remember when I had a subscription to BirchBox? This subscription for ipsy seems very similar, but a lot more specific to beauty, which is good. The one thing that I didn’t like about BirchBox was that occasionally, I would get irrelevant items (that are still cool, but not what I paid for) such as pens and chocolate. It’s nice that ipsy provides items that are all beauty related. But it would be even nicer if ipsy provided a sheet that explained what each item is, like how BirchBox does it. Some of the products have absolutely no labels on them and ambiguous logos, how am I supposed to know if it’s foundation or concealer?
In terms of worth, I’m not quite sure that my April glam bag from ipsy is worth the $10 monthly price. It really feels almost like a waste since these are all sample products, except for the JulieG nail polish. I would estimate that all of these items together are worth about $7 max.
I guess we’ll have to see how the next glam bag turns out. I have no clue if I will be getting the May glam bag since it seems like you may have to start the wait list over again (which totally doesn’t make any sense to me). Let me know if any of you know the answer, or else we’ll just have to wait and see.
Bottom line: This month’s bag was a miss and not really worth the $$

Ahem, it was a gift. You didn’t pay for it 😛
hahaha, yea yea yea. you know my point =P
and how convenient of you to see this blog post lol!
I don’t know if Ipsy is the best sub box for you if you don’t want make-up products. You can always go to their site, sign-in and see descriptions of the items in your bag. Once you’re off the wait list, you won’t be put back on it. Bags arrive about the middle of each month. Overall, I like Ipsy the best for the price (Only $10) because I want mostly make-up items and not skincare. If this was a gift, they probably took the “quiz” for you. You may want to re-take the quiz to match more of what you want or use. Also, reviewing the items each month helps to customize your bags better. 🙂
Hey Natalie~ thanks for all of the tips! I really learned a lot from your comment. I’ll have to look more into helping better customize my bag for next time. I saw that my May bag has just shipped. Can’t wait to see what comes in the mail!
