Acne Treatments and Prevention Tips

No one enjoys having acne. It can be embarrassing, and even annoyingly painful sometimes. However, there are solutions to these little acne pests. But first, we need to know what types of acne exist, and which ones you have.

I don’t usually get that many pimples, but when I do, I usually get two types, Acne Vulgaris Pustules and Nodules. To see all types of acne, provided with a picture and description, click here.

So what causes acne? Usually if you get acne around your mouth or even your cheeks, it has to do with a hormonal imbalance. If you are taking birth control pills, make sure that you are taking them regularly, or else it can cause fluctuations in your hormones. Stress is another cause of acne. Make sure that you take the time to understand yourself and learn which is the best way for you to deal with stress. Below is a list of tips to prevent acne!

Tips to Prevent Acne:

  • clean your towels regularly
  • wash your face daily and keep up a routine
  • avoid touching your face
  • watch what you eat and get regular sleep
  • avoid smoking too much marijuana
  • avoid oil-based hair products and keep your hair away from your face
  • clean your facial brushes
  • use facial products that are oil-free, water-based, or noncomedogenic
  • use products that don’t require you to dip your fingers into the container, but if you have to, make sure your fingers are clean (or else you will contaminate the container)
  • gently exfoliate your skin 1-2 times a week to avoid dead skin cell and oil build up
  • pick one form of over the counter acne product and stick to it following the directions (below is what I use)
Clean & Clear Advantage:
This is my secret weapon for fighting pimples. I’ve been using Clean & Clear Advantage for many years now. But of course, this product should only serve as a supplement to your daily facial cleansing routine.

Clean & Clear Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment, 0.75-Ounce Tube: I have been using this product ever since it was first released. I still remember seeing the advertisement in a fashion magazine claiming that your acne would be gone in 3 days! I just had to try it, and of course I had no complaints since I’ve been using it for years. I like to use this product everyday at night after I have completed my face washing routine. I put it on all my pimples and even on places where I feel that there might be one forming. The product works in a way where it dries up the area (pimple) that it is applied to and slowly brings all of the pimple to the surface until all of it I’d gone. If you use it correctly, your pimple will go away without any scaring, but you must be patient. If you like popping pimples, don’t mind scarring (since you can cover it up with make up), and are in a rush.. you can pop your pimple and then apply the Acne Spot Treatment afterwards. You will feel a burning/stinging sensation in the area, but this will work faster to remove the pimple. However, you will scar and this method is not entirely recommended (even though I do this often).

Clean & Clear Advantage Popped Pimple Relief Gel Pen, 0.06-Ounce (Pack of 2): This product is meant to be used if you popped your pimple. This is my first time using the Gel Pen. It was about the same price as the Acne Spot Treatment, but in my opinion, it’s not as good. The Gel Pen gives you so little of the product in comparison to the Acne Spot Treatment. The Acne Spot Treatment will last me for around 3-4 months, where as the Gel Pen lasts only for 1 month. In addition, the application tip is completely useless and does not add anything to the product. It looks similar to a lipgloss applicant tip incase you are wondering. Another reason why it doesn’t work well is because the salicylic acid % is far less than the amount that is in the Acne Spot Treatment. The only thing I can think of that’s good about this product is if you want to use it during the day time under makeup. But this is not necessary if you have the Acne Spot Treatment.
